The Silver Surfer has been plagued by recurring dreams of his past misdeeds and encounters with Death. Seeking help, he turns to Adam Warlock, who can find no cause other than Death herself sending these visions. Gamora advises the Surfer to consult Thanos. En route, a messenger of Death confronts the Surfer, declaring him chosen as Death's consort. The Surfer declines and approaches Thanos with the news, inadvertently provoking Thanos's wrath. Thanos incapacitates the Surfer, delivering him to Death as an offering, demanding to be her consort himself. Rejected again, Thanos frees the Surfer, and together they battle Death's minions to escape. Departing, Death banishes Thanos from her domain, cursing him with immortality. Meanwhile, an irate Thanos resurrects Captain Mar-Vell using the Reality Gem, intending to craft a universe where Death reciprocates his love. However, Mar-Vell, understanding Thanos's nature, persuades him to abandon his plan. Acknowledging the truth in Mar-Vell's words, Thanos restores Mar-Vell to the afterlife and returns the Reality Gem to its rightful place.
